THE POWER OF VEGETABLE OILS!
First post of the year and we invite you to meet the founder of Nüssa, Sandrine Sixtine. She tells us everything about skincare oils, their extraordinary powers and benefits for the skin and also talks to us about preconceived ideas: "an oil is greasy, it gives you spots..."
So we'll clear up all these topics and at the end of this article, oils will no longer hold any secrets for you.
Here we go!
OIL IS ON THE RISE,
CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE MORE?
Indeed, vegetable oil is a treasure for the skin . For decades, oil has been used in beauty. Recently, we had somewhat neglected it in favor of creams. However, care oil is a real anti-dehydration shield that acts as a protective veil.
First of all, it is important to emphasize that a vegetable oil is composed of 100% oil and contains nothing else. No preservatives, no chemical ingredients. Very rich in active ingredients (essential fatty acids, also known as Omega 3, 6, 9 and vitamins), vegetable oil is a lipid extract of an oleaginous plant, that is to say a plant whose seeds, pits, pips, fruits, vegetables and nuts contain lipids that have a great affinity with the skin . They look like it. The oil penetrates the epidermis where a cream remains on the surface (protection of the superficial layers of the skin).
In addition, throughout the year, our skin is put to the test. Sun, pollution, cold, stress, fatigue... all these elements contribute to the weakening of the intercellular cement that ensures cohesion between cells. The lipids that our skin naturally produces become fragile and lose density. This is where skin care oil is extremely interesting. Indeed, it comes as a reinforcement by providing it with the lipids naturally present in the oil, rebalancing and regenerating the skin deep in the skin layers.
Highly concentrated, the care oil is sufficient in itself. We stop over-consuming. A single treatment for the day and night completely meets our daily needs. In addition, it is 100% natural, organic, vegan and cruelty free!
OIL IN DETAIL
1/ How does oil penetrate under the skin? What are the differences between an oil and a cream?
If drinking water is the key to hydration (nearly 60% of our body is made up of water), there is nothing better than vegetable oils to deeply nourish your skin, prevent it from sagging and wrinkles from deepening. You really have to keep in mind the following: a cream hydrates the upper layers of the epidermis while an oil nourishes in depth.
First of all, oils help to supplement the skin with fatty substances. They also compensate for dehydration by reconstituting the surface film which will prevent water from evaporating in order to protect and nourish the epidermis throughout the day. We often talk about "regulating water loss". Oils therefore have a real specific action on the epidermis by acting as a real shield.
The difference with cream that remains on the surface is the power of penetration of the active ingredients into the deep layers of the epidermis. Vegetable oil provides nutrients to the skin that other treatments cannot provide. In particular, vegetable oil will act deep in the skin layers, thus facilitating the diffusion of the active ingredients.
Unlike an aqueous formula (cream, emulsion, etc.) made up of 60% to 70% water, the active ingredients will be more stable and more powerful in an oil than in a milk or cream.
With use, the skin plumps up because it is deeply nourished. It redensifies and the quality of the grain is really improved. If you want to boost your skincare routine, it is really the oil that is to be favored!
2/ Should you apply it in the evening or in the morning? How can you avoid being too shiny (the firefly effect) if you apply your oil in the morning?
It is a misconception that oils add an oily layer to the epidermis . This is not the case, unless of course you are using an oil that is too rich, unsuitable, comedogenic or poorly balanced.
A few drops are enough to nourish the skin of the face. The oil will penetrate the hydrolipidic cement. The skin will only take what it needs (a bit like drinking). If you put too much, it is normal for it to be shiny, even after several minutes after application. You have to listen to your skin, it is very important.
At Nüssa, I attached particular importance to textures. The idea was to formulate Day and Night duos (the needs being different) and to create a synergy between the active ingredients in order to multiply the effects.
Our daytime textures are very fine. They penetrate immediately and leave a super velvety feel.
Our nighttime textures are a little thicker (note that this does not mean that they are greasy). The idea is to take a little time for yourself, and to massage yourself in order to allow the active ingredients to penetrate well and to restart microcirculation. The massage is as important as applying a treatment. At night, when resting, is when the skin is most receptive and when it regenerates (it is not subject to any external aggression).
3/ Oil is particularly suitable for dry skin. What about applying oil to oily skin?
Generally speaking, vegetable oil is suitable for all skin types, even oily skin.
It is often wrongly thought that oils are not suitable for their type, but think again!
If the treatment oil is well formulated, well balanced and non-comedogenic, there is no chance of looking like a little firefly!
Oily skin is skin that lacks sebum and therefore overproduces it in order to fill the gap. As incredible as it may seem, oily skin needs an oil to stabilize itself.
Vegetable oils (non-comedogenic) help regulate sebum production and have an effect on the epidermis. They also provide a self-regulating function on skin that produces too much oil. By providing the skin with the oil it needs, it will stop producing excess oil to protect itself. Vegetable care oil is an ultra-gentle and non-toxic way to rebalance damaged skin, often dehydrated and weakened by overly abrasive treatments and unsuitable care.
To sum up, oily skin is skin that defends itself. You just need to regulate it by providing it with the right fatty substances. A few drops are enough to rebalance and regenerate the skin of the face and restore its suppleness and radiance.
At Nüssa none of our care oils are comedogenic. They are organic, 100% natural, chosen for their high quality, without preservatives, only vitamin E (tocopherol) which is a wonderful antioxidant and acts as a preservative. They nourish, stabilize and regenerate all skin types.
Is the future of green and responsible cosmetics in these plant-based active ingredients?
Indeed, I think so. This method of sourcing and manufacturing is respectful of the skin but also of the planet, which in my eyes is a very important factor. As a brand, we really have this role to play.
Beauty is about doing yourself good, but it is also about being aware that our planet is not doing well. Today we can no longer turn a blind eye. Moreover, at Nüssa, thanks to the orders placed on our e-shop, we regularly replant trees around the world, particularly in Africa where we source most of our precious and rare oils.
We participate in reforestation programs by replanting trees in collaboration with the NGO "One Tree planted".
Replanting trees is vital. It is essential to the balance of the eco-system, to the stabilization of populations, and to the prevention of animal species that are in danger of extinction, without forgetting global warming, a major challenge.
Trees are oxygen, they are our lungs, they are life!
What seasonal routine would you recommend?
2 / I nourish deeply
I nourish deeply with the Repulping spray serum, formulated from a trio of ultra-powerful active ingredients: Organic Corsican immortelle flower, natural hyaluronic acid and organic aloe vera juice.
→ We love this serum which is not a classic serum. Its spray application breaks the codes. Here, there is no question of an aqueous base (as is the case with most serums), its first ingredient is organic immortelle flower hydrosol, which makes its active ingredient very strong!
Thanks to its micro-droplets, it penetrates directly between the first and second layers of the skin (where the collagen and hyaluronic acid of our skin is stored) and recreates a cushion that plumps the skin instantly. After its application, it is normal to have a feeling of dry skin because the serum does not act on the surface of the skin but deep down. It is therefore essential to finish with the 3rd step!
IN CONCLUSION?
→ A well-formulated and balanced oil will act on the quality of the skin, on the regulation of its hydration and its sebum (on the deep layers) by making it more supple and luminous.
